LATIN AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN
Headed by Marco Schneider and Arthur Bezerra
The Latin American & Caribbean Chapter of ICIE is founded in the ongoing cooperation between ICIE and IBICT, the Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia.
Marco Schneider directs the research group Perfil-i (Perspectivas Filosóficas em Informação) out of IBICT in partnership with Rafael Capurro.
Schneider and his fellow IBICT researchers have directed a
number of projects out of the collaboration between IBICT
and ICIE, resulting in several publications including Dilemas
ético-epistemológicos da era da informação written by
Schneider and Gustavo Saldana.
One of IBICTS contributions to the advocacy of Information
Ethics in Latin America is the translation of important
documents into Spanish and Portuguese. A key document
available from IBICT is the translated and published book
chapter, Citizenship in the Digital Age, in Ulepicc, written by
Rafael Capurro for ICIE.
IBICT researchers Marco Schneider, Gustavo Pimenta and Lena Vania Ribeiro Pinheiro participated at length in the success of the book Information Cultures in the Digital Age: A Festschrift in Honour of Rafael Capurro, contributing a total of three chapters to the book.
Rafael Capurro, Marco Schneider and Arthur Bezerra recently published Regimes of truth and power: from modern times to the digital age, in Liinc em Revista.
Marco and fellow IBICT researcher Ricardo Pimento lead as guest editors for the International Review of Information Ethics (IRIE's) latest edition, Information Ethics from a Marxian Perspective, which included their own the dossiê, Walter Benjamin's concept of history and the plague of post-truth.
